Idaho’s foster care system is in crisis in the third district—only 72 homes are available for every 100 children compared to 98 statewide.
CASA said rising abuse cases and a shortage of volunteers show that more safe homes and help are urgently needed.
Canyon County is advancing plans for a new jail facility for female inmates using county reserves to bypass taxpayer-approved bonds—$7.5 million has been allocated in the fiscal year 2026 budget with additional funds expected next year.
Construction may start later than anticipated as officials work to relieve overcrowding.
