Idaho gas prices dropped 50 cents in one month to an average of $4.17 per gallon — still 27 cents above the national rate — after crude oil prices fell when the U.S. and Iran reached a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The change comes ahead of the record 4th of July travel weekend.

Caldwell officials began work on the Railroad Quiet Zone project Friday, June 26 and will complete improvements by the end of July.

Parking lot driveways along 5th, Kimball, and 9th Avenues will be closed for safety (access will switch to nearby routes) and train horns are set to stop in August.

A growing rat infestation has troubled the Treasure Valley since 2022 as local officials lack power to coordinate control measures, and this week Sen. Nichols and Rep. Gannon urged agencies to appoint a point person (a step aimed at avoiding costlier outbreaks later) while residents secure trash and vents.

Idaho’s state veterinarian, Dr. Scott Leibsle, explained that while the risk remains low, new rules now require a veterinary health certificate within five days for animals coming from affected Texas and New Mexico areas.

The measure applies to both pets and livestock to help prevent screwworm from spreading.
