On Monday, April 13, the Idaho Department of Water Resources issued an emergency drought declaration statewide after Gov. Brad Little approved the measure, allowing temporary adjustments to existing water rights amid record-low snowpack and warm winter conditions.
The Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District has issued canal safety reminders as the 2026 irrigation season progresses, noting that the Ridenbaugh Canal is set to open no earlier than April 1.
Residents are advised to follow posted safety guidelines near the canal.
