Forest officials plan prescribed burns in Boise National Forest to start this month pending approvals; projects near Cascade, Emmett, Idaho City, Lowman and Mountain Home aim to reduce overgrown vegetation and protect communities—residents should expect temporary closures and possible smoke.

Drivers using SH-55 in Caldwell must plan for an overnight closure on March 26 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for irrigation line installation and highway widening to four lanes (expected to improve safety as work continues through 2028).

Lawmakers rejected a bill that would have tracked rat infestations (from Eagle to Boise), leaving homeowners without state help this year.

The proposal may be revived in the future as local concerns continue.
